Exercise can help you lower your blood glucose levels and manage some long-term effects of diabetes.
Exercise Do’s
Self-test your glucose level before you begin so you know whether you need a snack. Also, test after exercise, so you know how exercise affects your glucose level.
Bring along a source of carbohydrate (like a sports drink or fruit juice) in case your blood sugar goes too low.
Exercise when your glucose level is at its highest-one to three hours after eating.
Wait to exercise if ketones are present in your urine.
Exercise with a friend or family member who knows something about diabetes.
Wear an ID bracelet stating that you diabetes.
